What’s the first thing that comes to mind when the word tequila enters the conversation? For a lot of people it conjures the image of crowds downing shots in a college bar or at a frat party. That’s a shame because genuine tequila isn’t produced for that purpose. Instead, it’s meant to be sipped and savored over a relaxing evening or afternoon; perhaps surrounded by friends or family, with good food and lively banter to go around. That’s the crux of what I experienced when I visited Mexico last week to visit Casa Noble Tequila as their guest. Head over to The Daily Meal to read all about my Mexican Adventure.

Honestly I don’t get around to drinking Tequila that often. With the amount of time I spend tasting wine, more wine and then some Scotch. other liquids often take a back seat. But When I heard about Hornitos Lime Shot Tequila it sounded like something different enough that I needed to make time for it. So here’s a look at it. Hornitos Lime Shot Tequila was made from 100% blue agave tequila with a touch of salt and natural lime flavor added. This Tequila has 35% Alcohol by Volume. It’s available nationally in a variety of different sizes. The standard 750ml bottle has a suggested retail price of $19.99.
Right off, after pouring myself and ice cold serving of this Tequila I was impressed with the citrus aromas that burst out when I stuck my nose near the glass. It immediately made me think of warm weather. I sipped it at first and was struck by how well integrated the lime and salt additions are. They add additional layers of flavor but don’t detract from the pure taste of the Tequila which comes shining on through. I also tasted a bit more of it as shots and unlike a lot of Tequila’s, Hornitos Lime shot goes down silky smooth. It’s incredibly pleasing and easy to drink. And my strongest reaction was that I wanted to have more of it, which I did. It was tasty at room temperature but I like it best ice cold.
If you’re looking for an interesting twist on a spirit, pick up a bottle of Hornito’s Lime Shot Tequila. Stick it in your freezer and enjoy. It’s a fun one to pour for your friends without revealing exactly what it is until they taste it. The lime and salt will be a pleasing surprise to them. It was to me even though I already knew it was there.
