In 1980 Bob Pepi and his Dad founded Robert Pepi Wines in Napa Valley’s Oakville District. In the mid 90’s after a run of success, they sold the brand and the name, leaving Bob free to explore other winemaking opportunities, as well as unable to use his own name on a bottle of wine. In the ensuing years he’s made a lot of wine on several continents.
These days Bob’s efforts include his own boutique label, Eponymous. He also makes wine for several labels owned by importer and wine marketer Quintessential Wines. These include the brands “Two Angels,” “Samuel Charles,” and the recently acquired “Geyer Peak,” and Atlas Peak.”
During normal times I might taste with Bob out in Napa, or during one of his trips to New York City. But 2020 being what it is, a couple of days ago we met over Zoom to chat and taste a handful of the many Wines he either directly makes or has some hand in overseeing.
We taste and discuss the following wines during our chat:
Geyser Peak - 2019 Sauvignon Blanc ($13.99)
Samuel Charles - 2019 Sauvignon Blanc ($24.99)
Samuel Charles - 2019 Reserve Red Blend ($17.99)
Eponymous - 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon ($59.99)
Two Angels - 2018 Petite Sirah ($26.99)
